BEFORE YOU PAINT

Plan the room around the painting.

A little coordination helps you explain the job and understand what needs to move before work begins.

Agree on responsibilities first.

Before moving large furniture or taking fittings apart, discuss what the painting scope includes and who will handle each task. Make a simple list covering furniture, small belongings, wall hangings and access. Ask which items should remain in place for assessment.

Good Painting’s quote request starts with your location, rooms, surfaces and timing. Mention whether the home is occupied and any room that you need to keep using.

Walk through the rooms you want painted.

  • Photograph each room widely enough to show walls, flooring and furniture.
  • Point out damage, old repairs or marks you want discussed.
  • List shelves, artwork, curtains and other items near the work.
  • Identify finishes that should be left untouched.
  • Tell the painter about tall walls, stair access and bulky furniture.

Plan for your normal day.

Let the painter know about work calls, children’s rooms, pets and the routes you need through the home. Discuss room sequence and access before settling on dates. A spare room or another floor may help with the plan, but arrangements depend on the actual job.

Ask about ventilation, product instructions and when each room can be used again. Do not assume that a surface being dry to the touch means it is ready for cleaning, furniture contact or everyday wear.

Keep the finish information.

Ask for the paint colour, product and sheen used on each surface. Store those details with the room names after the job. If you already have information about the existing finish, share it during quoting.

For an older home, flag unknown coatings, textured surfaces or previous repairs before preparation begins. Do not start removing an unknown finish to make the room look ready for an estimate.
