THE SHORT ANSWER

A door-painting quote needs the number and type of doors, how many sides need painting, their current finish and whether frames are included. Door work is separate from our wall-painting packages.

Count thisExplain this
Door leavesA pair of closet doors is two leaves. Include both if both need painting.
Faces and edgesOne side, both sides and any exposed edges should be specified.
Frames and casingDoor painting does not automatically include the surrounding woodwork.
HardwareConfirm how handles, hinges and other fittings will be protected or removed.

Dark doors, light walls. Or one continuous colour.

A charcoal door adds a defined edge in a light hallway. Painting doors to match the walls gives a quieter effect. In either case, test the colour against existing flooring and adjacent doors before committing to a whole floor.

The wall coating and the door coating may be different products. Even the same colour name can look different when the sheen or surface changes. Approve the actual combination you plan to use.

Matching colour can connect a door to the wall around it.

A glossy old finish needs a closer look.

Send close photos of the current paint and any chips, dents or worn edges. Tell us if you know the previous product. Preparation and adhesion requirements depend on the existing finish and the door material; new colour alone will not solve peeling paint.

Discuss the finish, application method and where the work will happen. If doors are removed, there needs to be a plan for storage, labelling, reinstallation and keeping private rooms usable. If they stay in place, access and protection still need to be settled.

Follow the selected coating’s directions before closing newly painted surfaces against one another. Dry to the touch is not the same as ready for repeated handling. Ask when doors can return to normal use and when they can be cleaned.

A few details before you decide

Can you paint stained interior doors?

Send photos and details of the material and existing finish. A change from stained wood to paint needs assessment and may require a different preparation and coating system from a previously painted door.

Do you spray or brush doors?

The method should be agreed for the door, product and available workspace. Ask what is proposed in your quote and how surrounding rooms will be protected.

Can I include just a few doors?

Yes, ask for the specific doors you want considered. Include their locations, sides and frames so the scope is clear.
